IFJ Institute for Journalism

About

The Institute for Journalism was founded on a simple premise: democracy dies when reporters become stenographers.

We are entirely independent and funded through reader contributions and grants from non-partisan foundations. We do not accept corporate sponsorships, advertising, or funding from political action committees.

Our Methodology

Our training materials are developed by working investigative reporters, FOIA litigators, and media lawyers. We focus exclusively on the mechanics of extraction: how to get documents people don't want you to have, how to understand them, and how to publish them safely.
